Progeny Extensive Documentation:

Where do I start?

You start in the starting town of your races homeland. These are the only non-player constructed towns in the world.

How do I interact with shopkeepers?

From a distance from two or less spaces away wave your mouse over the shopkeeper at least three times.

How do I create new materials?

  1. Press the golden box with two pickaxes on your screen. This is called the combine box and is where you make new materials.
  2. Click on the material you want to make, if you have the right necessary materials it will be created.

How do I mine/chop/fish new resources?

The first thing you’re going to want to do is buy a tool from the Misc. Vendor. Then go up to the object you would like to use and right click and use the corresponding option.

Tools:

Hatchet -> Trees

PickAxes -> Mines of any type

Fishing Rod -> Fishing Hot Spots

Mason’s Hammer -> Used for cutting stone slabs

Flint -> For fire’s and torch’s

Shovel -> Building pathways

How do I use the mass building tool?

A common and important question. Make sure you have all the materials you need.

1. Press the golden box with two pickaxes on your screen. This is called the combine box and is where you make new materials.

2. Press the mass building button on your screen. It should say mass.

3. Draw the outline of whatever you plan to build. If you can’t draw it, you could be in a no building area.

4. Go to the ‘Building Objects’ tab, find and click on the type of material you wish to use.

5. Click ‘finish’ on your screen. If you have the right materials it should create the building.

To stop at anytime simply click the mass building button again.

We set up a video demonstrating how to do it here:

Where do I get my class?

You’ll recall that in the beginning of the game during character creation you selected a major and minor. This is Progeny’s form of a class. This way there are over 50 different classes you can have. Choosing a minor and major does not limit the skills you have access to, each player has access to all the skills, but only players that major in the attribute that skill is intended for will experience its true power.

What do the attributes do?

Strength: Bulk and muscular power; increases damage output.

Stamina: Stamina icreases the health of the individual.

Focus: Focus is the strength of mind a player has, giving him the ability to distort and confuse opponents. Also sometimes affects intelect attribute skills.

Heart: Allows one to use skills that positively affect yourself and party members. It's the main buffing skill and allows for skills that heal party members. Heart also positively affects the player's 'luck' and may make it easier to learn trade skills.

Dexterity: Increases chance to dodge, lockpicking, is the primary skill for ranged weaponry and is required for certain powerful dexterity based skills.

Intelect: Intelect affects the amount of mana a player has and eventually allows access to it's powerful arcane skills.

Where do I buy new skills?

You’ll need to speak to a skill vendor in either a player controlled town or in one of the homeland towns. You’ll need money and skill points, you get one sill point per level.

Where are the other races?

Each of the races starts on their own plot of homeland. To reach another race’s homeland you must travel through various maps. For example there is snowy mountainous map that links the Humans to the Elves and a Desert map that links both of these peoples to the Orcs.

All maps including homeland maps are filled with creatures and monstrous beasts, dungeons and tons of loot. All of these maps are fertile places for people to create their own towns.

What?  I can’t kill people of my own race?

That’s very true, you can’t. In the future, we will add a dueling system for people of the same race but for now they are not the enemy and you should co-operate with them to help killing the enemy, the other races.

Quests?

As of right now in Progeny there are no Quests. This is a source of much contention among team members. But there are a couple reasons why not.

1.      Keeping with the setting, Progeny is a virgin world without many people at all. Thus there aren’t Quests.

2.      We plan to supplement this with GM roleplay features, we’ll tell our GM’s to make fairly regular occurrences of roleplay events. For example there will be organized raids, groups of people organized by GM’s constructing outposts to expand their races territory, and of course attacks from the other side against said encroachment.

3.      Quests generally turn into a ‘fetch this’ ‘kill this’ grind system and we hate that. In Progeny even lower levels are important fodder and runners/gatherers of resources and supplies there is no real reason to add in a grind to a game that doesn’t need you to be the strongest there is.

4.      We have large dungeons that are similar to questing but much more fun, with background stories and much more loot, plus boss monsters and epic items.

So even though quests don’t really fit Progeny, we tried to supplement them with other features that should tide you over.

Epic Items and Custom Mini bosses/bosses –

You’ll notice as you walk around the world the occurrence of minibosses of monsters, these monsters drop one of a kind items that are enshrined with their name. No one will probably ever receive a Crusader Shield of Crajin but you. In this way, Mega Bosses drop items too, however more than one person can receive a Halberd of Jaul for example.

Armor –

Armor, everyone knows what it is and does, this is just a quick chart of the basic armor types in order from worst to best.

Robes of any color(they are pretty stylish though)

        Bronze Armor

                 Iron Armor

                       Steel Armor

                               Serpent’s armor

                                      Lion’s Armor

                                            Dragon’s Armor

Obviously we have many more armor types than this. Click to equip them.

Weapons

We have massive amounts of weapons already in the game on release day, this is not counting the unlimited amount of customizable weapons in the game.

Click to equip them.

No way? Siege Weapons?

Easily one of the most deadly things in the game, siege weapons come in a variety of forms from Cannon’s to Ballistae they are things of awesome destruction.

As of right now, the only way to use one is in a Role-play event, however, we plan on making them user constructible as soon at the next update is in at least.

How do I get into dungeons? Where are they?

Every single dungeon has a control point located outside of it in the shape of a pylon, you must go up to it and ‘capture’ it when, you capture it you’ll see and explosion of light and your race will have taken over the dungeon. This way dungeons become important points of control for their potential loot value and fun.

Once inside leave the way you came.

Each homeland map has one dungeon and they are also scattered throughout the world. That’s all I can tell you.

What’s a No-Build area?

You’ll find them around dungeons and the homeland towns, these are areas you’re forbidden to build on and the mass builder won’t work. This is the keep the game the same in important areas.

How do you guys plan on updating the game?

We’re going to do a system that involves patches and actual updates.

Patches will be small additions and bug fixes that will smooth out the game and fix any design issues.

Updates will be massive content additions; they will involve massive amounts of new icons, additions of new systems, or new races and map areas.
